چکیده

We review recent studies demonstrating a nonuniversal (continuously variable) survival exponent for history-dependent random walks, and analyze a new example, the hard movable partial reflector. These processes serve as a simplified models of infection in a medium with a history-dependent susceptibility, and for spreading in systems with an infinite number of absorbing configurations. The memory may take the form of a history-dependent step length, or be the result of a partial reflector whose position marks the maximum distance the walker has ventured from the origin. In each case, a process with memory is rendered Markovian by a suitable expansion of the state space. Asymptotic analysis of the probability generating function shows that, for large t, the survival probability decays as S(t) ∼ t−δ, where δ varies with the parameters of the model. We report new results for a hard partial reflector, i.e., one that moves forward only when the walker does. When the walker tries to jump to the site R occupied by the reflector, it is reflected back with probability r, and stays at R with probability 1 − r; only in the latter case does the reflector move (R → R+1). For this model, δ = 1/2(1−r), and becomes arbitrarily large as r approaches 1. This prediction is confirmed via iteration of the transfer matrix, which also reveals slowly-decaying corrections to scaling. [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]

Survival of branching random walks in random environment

We study survival of nearest-neighbour branching random walks in random environment (BRWRE) on Z. A priori there are three different regimes of survival: global survival, local survival, and strong local survival. We show that local and strong local survival regimes coincide for BRWRE and that they can be characterized with the spectral radius of the first moment matrix of the process. These re...

Further scaling exponents of random walks in random sceneries

Completing previous results, we construct, for every 1/2 6 s 6 1, explicit examples of nearest neighbour random walks on the nonnegative integer line such that s is the scaling exponent of the associated random walk in random scenery for square integrable i.i.d. sceneries. We use coupling techniques to compare the distributions of the local times of such random walks.

Generalized (c, d)-Entropy and Aging Random Walks

Complex systems are often inherently non-ergodic and non-Markovian and Shannon entropy loses its applicability. Accelerating, path-dependent and aging random walks offer an intuitive picture for non-ergodic and non-Markovian systems. It was shown that the entropy of non-ergodic systems can still be derived from three of the Shannon–Khinchin axioms and by violating the fourth, the so-called comp...

Coincidence of Lyapunov Exponents for Random Walks in Weak Random Potentials

We investigate the free energy of nearest-neighbor random walks on Z d , endowed with a drift along the first axis and evolving in a nonnegative random potential given by i.i.d. random variables. Our main result concerns the ballistic regime in dimensions d ≥ 4, at which we show that quenched and annealed Lyapunov exponents are equal as soon as the strength of the potential is small enough.

First-Passage Exponents of Multiple Random Walks

We investigate first-passage statistics of an ensemble of N noninteracting random walks on a line. Starting from a configuration in which all particles are located in the positive half-line, we study Sn(t), the probability that the nth rightmost particle remains in the positive half-line up to time t. This quantity decays algebraically, Sn(t) ∼ tn , in the long-time limit. Interestingly, there ...
